building up puzzleStarting a dental practice can be an intimidating prospect, but it’s been your dream for a long time, and you have the degrees and debt to prove it. In this day and age, the internet is essential to the success of any type of business, and it’s especially important when it comes to healthcare providers. How can you use the internet to make sure your practice gets off the ground as quickly as possible? With these 3 simple tips, you’ll soon have a healthy new patient flow and your practice will be profiting in no time.

1. Create a Website

For the overwhelming majority of people today, their first interaction with a dentist is through their website. About 90% of potential patients search for local businesses using the internet, and even patients who hear about you through word-of-mouth will look at your site before giving you a call. This means you need a professional-looking website that tells your story in a compelling way and shows the patient everything you have to offer in language they understand. Also, in order for it to show up prominently on search results, it needs to be optimized for specific terms, such as “(your town) dentist” and “dentist in (your town).”

2. Create a Google Business page

Google has nearly 80% of the market share when it comes to search engines, so if potential patients can’t find you on Google, they likely won’t be able to find you at all. In reality, your Google listing will likely be the very first thing people will see when searching for a dentist online. This listing is essential to you building up your online reputation because it is also where most people will leave reviews. After you have created your practice’s page (which only takes a few minutes), you should encourage your satisfied patients to leave a review. Many patients will simply look at a practice’s reviews/ratings in order to decide whether they want to visit it or not.

3. Be Active on Social Media

A social media platform like Facebook also presents a valuable opportunity to curate a positive online reputation. You can create a page for your practice and create content that makes you seem more relatable and friendly, which is vital to any dentist’s reputation. In addition to being able to interact with potential patients directly, they can also leave reviews on this page as well. Seeing as how more than one billion people are currently using Facebook every day, it’s a safe bet that most of your area is on it as well. Just “liking” or “sharing” one thing every day can help you reach hundreds of prospective patients online.

How to Get Started

While all of these strategies are relatively straightforward, they do take some time and finesse to execute properly, and they are also constantly changing. Keeping up with all of this might seem overwhelming at first seeing as how you also need to worry about, you know, treating patients. Fortunately, there are a number of dental service organizations that can take care of all of this for you so you can concentrate on what really matters, and that’s practicing great dentistry.
